Fixed Maintenance Mechanic IV of Heavy Equipment

The Fixed Maintenance Mechanic IV of Heavy Equipment is responsible for the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in the mining, construction, and transportation industries such as pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, production machines and equipment using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring testing instruments. This position requires a high level of technical skill and experience in the maintenance of heavy equipment, as well as a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.

Essential Functions:

• Observes mechanical devices in operation and troubleshoots problems
• Reviews lubrication reports and service records and performs oil, lube and filter service on all assigned equipment.
• Dismantles device to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools
• Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections
• Inspects and identifies conditions of equipment (wear, alignment, function, etc)
• Inspects, diagnoses and performs repair and maintenance of all plant stationary equipment
• Adjusts functional parts of devise and control instruments using hand and/or power tools
• Performs a variety of repair and maintenance tasks including repairs to crushing, screening, conveying, speed reducers, feeders, vibrators, air compressors and pumping equipment.
• Performs welding tasks as required to accomplish stated installation/repair jobs.
• Installs special functional and structural parts in device.

Education:

• High School Diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of training and work experience.

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in the construction/mining industry preferred.
• Prior experience in maintenance of fixed mining equipment preferred.
• Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Advanced welding & cutting skills
• Direct plant maintenance activities.
• Diagnose and determine repair parts / supplies.
• Ability to interpret blue prints & construct fabricated components (preferred)

Other Requirements:

• Advises the Maintenance Supervisor of any operational problems.
• Complies with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other Company policies, procedures and requirements.
• Must be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; grip, climb, reach, shovel, squat, crawl, or pull, push, as well as, bend and lift up to 45 pounds.
• Will work outdoors and exposed to varying and/or extreme weather conditions (i.e., heat, wet, cold, etc)
• May work in high and/or precarious places or cramped work space that requires getting into awkward positions.
• General plant maintenance inspection and diagnosis & repairs.
• Must be able to work required overtime and flexible work schedule.
• Must be able to speak, read, and have a working knowledge of the English language.

Salary: The salary is prescribed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates will be placed according to union contract salary scale at $53.58 per hour. Full benefits package including health insurance, a pension plan, paid vacation. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
